I am a full-time post-doctoral researcher in the Land Cover & Surface Climate Group at Boston University.  My research interests fall on the intersection between remote sensing and forest ecology.  Part of my job over the past ten years has been to create global land cover maps using satellite imagery from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS).  These have been featured in National Geographic atlases and are distributed freely online by NASA.  In addition, I manage a variety of research projects in collaboration with colleagues in ecology, statistics, and computer science.

My Ph.D. Dissertation focused on novel methods to assess forest health and monitor deforestation using time series of remote sensing data.  In this work, I used remote sensing data with different spatial, temporal, and radiometric resolutions to understand how scale affects disturbance detection and how long-term trends in vegetation indices are related to changes in forest productivity.  In the future I hope to leverage my computer skills and ecological knowledge to consult for companies that want to invest in afforestation and forest conservation for carbon credits.
